Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 Leaked in Live Renders; Tipped to Launch on September 12

Xiaomi’s upcoming Mi Mix 2 smartphone has a fair deal of excitement around it and even though the company has not made any official announcement about the launch date of the handset, it has now been tipped to launch on September 12 – the same day as the rumoured launch of the iPhone 8. Separately, the leaked live render of the smartphone might have given us a glimpse the back of the yet-to-be-announced smartphone.

Talking about the leaked renders first, a Weibo user has shared alleged live image of the Mi Mix 2 smartphone, which show the back of the smartphone. In the live image, the smartphone seems to have a glossy ceramic back and two circular cut-outs, which could indicate dual cameras or a single camera sensor and a fingerprint scanner at the back.

Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 Leaked in Live Renders; Tipped to Launch on September 12We can also see the stereo speakers at the bottom of the smartphone along with a USB Type-C port and a 3.5mm headphone jack. As much of the design is unclear from this live image, we might have to wait before we get a better look at the handset.

The other leak comes from China as well and suggests that the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 smartphone might be unveiled on the same date as the expected launch of iPhone 8, i.e.m September 12.

Earlier, a concept video suggested that the Mi Mix 2 might feature even thinner bezels than its predecessors and a separate leak tipped the upcoming smartphone to feature 3D Facial Recognition feature as well.

Jio Phone Bookings Begin Online and Offline: All Your Questions Answered

Jio Phone booking process has commenced for the public after a wait for more than a month. However, you will have to wait at least a week before the Jio Phone you booked reaches you as the company will not start deliveries till September. Reliance Jio reportedly aims to sell as many as 100 million units of the phone in the first year, and roughly the same number the next year. However, the Jio servers crashed and users were unable to book Jio Phone from MyJio app and the Jio.com website when Jio started taking the pre-orders. If you have questions about the Jio Phone booking process, price, features, etc., just scroll down for all the answers.

How do I book Jio Phone?

To book JioPhone you have three options – the Jio.com website, the MyJio app, and authorised offline Jio retailers. All you need to do make the Jio Phone booking is to give your phone number and the pincode delivery address, and pay a sum of Rs. 500. Once the booking has been made, you will receive a voucher number that you can refer to while picking up the handset. When the JioPhone you booked is up for delivery, you will receive an SMS mentioning the store from which it can be picked up. Even the units booked online will have to be picked up offline.

Can I book the Jio Phone for a friend?

Yes, you can book multiple JioPhone units, for your friends and family. All you need is their respective phone numbers and delivery pincodes. You will have to make a Rs. 500 payment for each unit you pre-order at the time of booking itself.

Jio Phone Bookings Begin Online and Offline: All Your Questions AnsweredWhen do I make the full payment?

The refundable security amount for Jio Phone is Rs. 1,500, of which Rs. 500 is, as mentioned above, paid at the time of booking. The remaining Rs. 1,000 has to be paid when you pick up the handset from the offline store.

How many units can I book?

On the MyJio app and Jio.com website, there seems to be no cap on how many units of the handset can be booked (we went up to 30 units). Multiple units can be booked against the same number and pincode as well, and you just need to make the Rs. 500 partial deposit per unit at the time of booking.

Can I transfer my booking to someone else?

After ordering the Jio 4G phone, if you decide against buying it, you can transfer the booking to someone else using the Transfer option in the MyJio app, under Manage Bookings. After entering your number and OTP, you will see an overview of your JioPhone bookings, with information such as orders placed and number of units for each order. Now, tap on the Transfer button above the JioPhone banner, and the screen will switch to a new interface with the option to reassign your booking to someone else. All you will have to do is to provide the new user’s phone number, the new delivery pincode, and number of units to be transferred (in case you booked more than one). The recipient will instantaneously receive a SMS from Jio mentioning their new booking.

Lava Announces 2-Year Warranty for Its Smartphones and Feature Phones

Domestic mobile manufacturer Lava on Friday announced a 2-year warranty for all its major models in its product portfolio in India, across smartphones and feature phones. It added the 2-year warrant would apply to all future launches as well. The company claims its 2-year warranty promise, covering such a wide range of products, is the first of its kind in the Indian mobile handset industry.

Detailing the move, Lava says a handset purchased after August 26 will have the 2-year warranty activated. It adds that it has over 1,000 service centres across the country. The standard warranty clause of 6 months on accessories and one year on touch panel or LCD display will continue to apply on both feature and smartphones. More details about which mobile handsets are covered under the 2-year warranty promise can be found on the Lava website, the company said.

Lava Announces 2-Year Warranty for Its Smartphones and Feature PhonesCommenting on the launch of the 2-Year Warranty, Gaurav Nigam, Senior VP, Head of Product, Lava International said, “These are exciting times for us as we continue to gain a stronger foothold in the Indian mobile handset industry. We are presumably the first Indian mobile phone brand to launch 2-Year Warranty offer on such a wide portfolio of devices. Jio Phone Bookings Paused After ‘Millions’ Pre-Book a Unit

Reliance Jio has paused bookings of the Jio Phone, with a message on its website saying that “millions” have already pre-booked a unit. The Jio Phone bookings went live at 5:30 pm on Thursday amidst heavy demand, which the Jio website and apps struggled to cope with for the first couple of hours. Things eventually settled down, and many were able to pre-book a Jio Phone by paying Rs. 500.

Now, however, Jio has paused the bookings, with no indication of when the phone will be up for pre-bookings again. “We will inform you when pre-booking [of Jio Phone] resumes,” a message on the Reliance Jio website reads.

Jio Phone price and delivery date

The Jio Phone is technically free to buy, but you will have to make a Rs. 1,500 refundable security deposit “to avoid potential misuse”. The booking fee is Rs. 500, while the remaining Rs. 1,000 needs to be paid when the mobile is delivered.

Delivery dates for JioPhone will depend upon how early you book the device, as Reliance Jio is following the first-come, first-serve rule. The company had earlier said it aims to deliver 5 million units of the handset each week, but the demand expected to be high so there is no surety on when the deliveries would be made.

The 4G VoLTE feature phone has a 2.4-inch display, 1.2GHz dual-core processor under the hood, backed by 512MB of RAM. The operating system keeping the handset running is KAI OS, and the Jio Phone has 4GB of internal storage, with microSD support up to 128GB. You get Wi-Fi support, 2000mAh battery, and NFC for digital payments.

Unique features of Jio Phone include support for 22 Indian languages, a voice assistant to control certain functions, and the option to mirror content playing on the phone to the TV using a proprietary cable. The first Jio-branded phone will come preloaded with apps such as JioCinema, JioMusic, JioTV, and JioXpressNews, along with popular instant messaging and social networking apps.

Huawei Mate 10 Teaser Video Reveals Leica-Branded Dual Rear Camera Setup

As we approach the launch of Huawei’s next flagship smartphone, the Mate 10, which is expected on October 16, the Chinese manufacturer is starting to let out sneak peeks into what you can expect from the smartphone. We know from past official confirmations and reports that the Huawei Mate 10 will highlight a near bezel-less ‘EntireView’ display and Leica-branded lenses. Now, we have a peek into one of those features in new teaser video.

Huawei dropped its first teaser video of the upcoming Mate 10 via its German YouTube page that teases the smartphone’s Leica-branded dual rear camera setup. The teaser shows images captured by the Mate 10’s rear camera highlighting colour contrasts, Bokeh effects, among other things. A quick glimpse of the setup also reveals that cameras comprise a 20-megapixel monochrome sensor and a 12-megapixel RGB sensor, which is similar to last year’s Mate 9 and P9 smartphones.

Huawei Mate 10 Teaser Video Reveals Leica-Branded Dual Rear Camera SetupLast week, renders of the Mate 10 surfaced online that show the bezel-less display of the smartphone, which Huawei terms as ‘EntireView’ display. The smartphone will compete with other bezel-less phones that include LG G6, Samsung Galaxy S8, and the upcoming iPhone 8. In fact, Huawei CEO expressed last month that the Mate 10, which is tipped to sport facial recognition, support AR and 3D sensing, will directly compete against Apple’s upcoming tenth anniversary iPhone.

The Huawei Mate 10 has also been rumoured to to come with iris scanning feature, and is expected to be powered by Huawei’s anticipated HiSilcon Kirin 970 SoC, which will be based on the 10nm fabrication process. It is expected to sport a 6-inch (1080×2160 pixels) display with an aspect ratio of 18:9. Huawei will likely tease more features of the Mate 10 as we approach the launch date. The smartphone is expected to be priced around CNY 4,000 (roughly Rs. 38,500).

Micromax Says It Will Get Its Mobile ‘Volume Leadership’ Back

Homegrown handset major Micromax is making an aggressive comeback in the Indian market, aiming to get its “volume leadership” back as it fends off Chinese rivals like Vivo, Oppo and Xiaomi.

The company is focusing on strengthening its position in the Rs. 9,000-15,000 category and aims to garner 10 percent share in the category over the next six months.

“There were players that had flooded the market with hoardings and offering over the top margins to retailers. The dust is now settling down and this is the right time to bring out what Micromax is known for – innovation,” Micromax co-founder Rahul Sharma told PTI.

He added that under the realigned product roadmap, Micromax is focusing on key features like camera, screen, battery and security and will launch a slew of devices that showcase Micromax’s “focus on innovation at the right price”.

Sharma said the efforts have begun to pay off with the company registering sales of 28.3 lakh devices in July.

“We will continue to build on this and get back to the volume leadership that we held till the end of last year. The growth in smartphone numbers will also follow,” he said.

Micromax Says It Will Get Its Mobile 'Volume Leadership' BackAt the end of December 2016 quarter, Micromax had 8.8 percent share of the smartphone market and ranked third after Samsung and Lenovo. However, in the March and June 2017 quarters, Micromax did not feature in the top 5 smartphone players tally.

“We already have a strong play in the Rs. 5,000-8,000 category. A big area of focus for us now is the Rs 9,000-15,000 category. This segment accounts for 21 per cent of the market and we want to capture 10 per cent share of this category in the next six months,” Sharma said.

Micromax on Tuesday launched its new device Canvas Infinity, priced at Rs. 9,999. The device features 18:9 display smartphone that is currently available in high-end devices like Samsung Galaxy S8 and LG G6.

“This is one of the innovations that we worked on. 18:9 ensures that users get more display space that is useful when they are playing games or watching videos, while ensuring that the handset can be held comfortably,” he said.

Sharma added that the company will expand the ‘Infinity’ display series in the next two months.

Vivo, Oppo See Strongest Growth in Global Smartphone Sales: Gartner

Global sales of smartphones reached 366.2 million units in the second quarter of 2017, a 6.7 percent increase over the second quarter of 2016, market research firm Gartner said on Tuesday.

Android-based smartphones surpassed iOS with a market share of 87.7 percent, with the latter accounting for 12.1 percent.

“Although demand for utility smartphones remains strong, there is growing demand in emerging markets for 4G smartphones, with more storage, better processors and more advanced cameras,” said Anshul Gupta, research director at Gartner, in a statement.

Growing smartphone penetration in India, Indonesia and Southeast Asian countries drove a year-over-year rise in smartphone sales in the emerging Asia/Pacific group.

gartner data Gartner

Smartphones of all types registered growth in sales in the second quarter, compared with the same period last year.

Samsung’s smartphone sales grew 7.5 percent y-o-y, after three consecutive quarterly declines, after it faced problems with the Galaxy Note 7.

However, the introduction of Galaxy S8 and S8+ has brought back high demand for Samsung smartphones.

“Despite growing competition from Chinese brands such as Huawei, Oppo and Vivo, we expect Samsung to register growth in 2017,” Gupta noted.

Despite clearing the distribution channel of iPhone inventory amounting to 3.3 million units during the second quarter, Apple’s sales were flat to 0.2 percent (y-o-y).

“Apple’s sales in emerging markets are expected to grow as older-generation iPhones continue to attract buyers. The new iOS 11 will likely fuel strong iPhone sales in the fourth quarter of 2017 and help Apple increase its sales in 2017,” added Gupta.

Chinese smartphone brands Vivo and Oppo achieved the best performances in the second quarter of 2017, with sales increase (y-o-y) of 70.8 percent and 44.1 percent, respectively.
