Wash your boat
This doesn’t mean now and then like you would a car. You need to wash your boat after each time you use it. Although this is important when you use the boat in fresh water, it takes on even greater significance when you use the boat in salt water. Salt water will eat away at the paint as corrosion begins to set in. This can also be an issue with fresh water because of contaminants and pollutants in fresh water.

Use the right equipment and materials for cleaning
First of all, do not use household soaps to clean your boat. You need to buy soap that is made for boats. They will clean without the use of chemicals that many household soaps contain that can damage your boat. You should also buy a long handled brush, so you can easily clean your boat in the trailer it sits in. You should also buy a wand that attaches to your hose. This makes rinsing the boat quick and easy.

Shop online for parts
Buying a used boat means that you will need parts from time to time for repairs. This doesn’t mean you will be doing repairs to your boat’s engine, but there are many things that can break on your boat, and parts can be hard to find. However, there is a huge selection of replacement parts for boats on the internet. Parts that may be hard to come by in your local area are likely easier to find on the internet.

Finally, you are likely to be changing your boat’s motor engine oil yourself. It is more difficult to find a shop to do this. It is easy to do, just read the manufacturer’s instructions. You will need to do this at least once a year.
